The New Age of the Sierra Madre
Propelled by significant advances in mining technology and a strong resurgence of the global gold markets, a number of intermediate and major companies have returned to this region, applying state-of-the-art recovery techniques to ore-rich properties last tapped in the 1920s.
And the results have been impressive.
Gold Corp.'s El Sauzal operation produced over 152,000 ounces of gold in 2010, while Coeur d'Alene's Palmajero operation has confirmed deposits of more than 3 million ounces gold equivalent and production of over 120,000 ounces of gold. Similarly, Minefinders' Dolores project has proven and probable resources of over 1.9 million ounces gold and 104 million ounces silver. Other large multi-million oz gold and silver deposits include Alamos Gold's Mulatos, and Gammon Gold's Ocampo Mine. The gold belt's historic and modern gold discoveries exceed 40 million ounces. Despite these discoveries the Sierra Madres are considered to be largely untapped.
Pan American Goldfields is currently developing several properties in the heart of this emerging region, which boasts proven resources and the mining infrastructure required to economically and efficiently begin production.
Cerro Delta Project- Exploration Argentina
Large New Discoveries at the South End of the Maricunga Gold Belt
The Maricunga Gold-Copper Belt measures approximately 150 kilometres long (north to south) by 30 kilometres wide and hosts a series of epithermal high sulphidation and porphyry-style gold-silver-copper deposits such as La Coipa, Refugio, Aldebaran, La Pepa, Soledad, Pantanillo, Lobo, Escondido, Cerro Casale and Caspiche. The Maricunga Belt hosts at least 15 major prospects, including three operating mines and two substantial idle deposits. Combined gold resources in the belt are in the order of more than 43 million ounces of gold.

Gold and copper mineralization is contained within advanced argillic alteration zones occuring in association with porphyry stockwork systems. These stockwork systems are localized at intersections of regional N to S and NW trending Andean-style fault structures, common loci for volcanoes and major ore deposits in the region.
Pan American Goldfields' Cerro Delta Project is in the southern end of the Maricunga Gold Belt in Argentina straddling the border with Chile. It is analogous to, and just 20 km east of, the 21.2 million ounce gold Cerro Casale project.
